It is my privilege to host talented historical fiction author Laura Frantz as my guest for Stop #22 of the Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt this year. I first became acquainted with Laura’s beautiful style of writing when I reviewed her captivating novel, Love’s Reckoning for USA Today‘s Happy Ever After blog. Her next book, A Moonbow Night, is scheduled to release in January 2017.
Laura is here today to tell us about the inspiration for her book’s title… and to offer a little excerpt from the book. But first, here is the book description, from publisher Revell:
From the beloved author of The Frontiersman’s Daughter and Courting Morrow Little comes a new Kentucky novel…
On the vast, uncharted Kentucky frontier of the 1770s, Temperance Tucker has learned to be fleet of foot, accurate with her rifle, and silent about the past. But her family secrets complicate her growing attraction to a handsome Virginia land surveyor with a harsh history of his own. Will the hurts and hardships of the past prevent them from a fulfilling future?
With her signature sweeping style and ability to bring the distant past to vivid life, Laura Frantz beckons readers to join her in a land of Indian ambushes, conflicting loyalties, and a tentative love that meanders like a cool mountain stream.
What in the world is a MOONBOW?
Guest Post
by Laura Frantz
Ever since I was a little girl growing up in Kentucky, Ive always been enchanted with the phenomenon of the moonbow, when mist and moonlight combine to create the nights version of a rainbow. Known to occur in only two places in the world, Cumberland Falls in the Daniel Boone National Forest is one of them. I never dreamed Id someday include it in the story, A Moonbow Night.
Perhaps my hero and heroine explain it best in this excerpt below
A moonbow?
She faced him again, drawn by his earnest query. Its a wonderment, Ill give you that, if the signs are right.
The signs?
A full moon . . . ample mist . . . patience.
He studied the sky. Patience I have. The moon looks fair enough. I dont know about the mist.
She smiled without wanting to. Hed removed his hat and angled it over his heart. Whether deliberately or without guile she didnt know. The effect was the same. For a few lightheaded seconds she forgot her shift. Her tumbled hair. Her resistance.
You could tarry awhile, he said.
Well, our hero does tarry and our heroine joins him in a wilderness adventure rife with real historical characters and real historical events from 1777 Kentucke. I so hope you enjoy A Moonbow Night!

Hmm, how far would I travel to see a moonbow…probably not too far. Since apparently there are only a few places they show up, I’d have to be pretty close and pretty sure it would be there should I go see it! Thank you for sharing and being a part of this year’s scavenger hunt. I subscribed to your newsletter too.
Signed up for the newsletter. I’d travel anywhere in the United States or Canada to see a moonbow; however, I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to travel further just to see a moonbow.

I would love to see a Moonbow. I have learned that you might see one over Victoria Falls – another reason I would love to go there during these years I am living in South Africa!
I have never heard of a moonbow before! Sounds ethereal. I’d probably travel a bit, but who knows how far. I’d have to make sure my bed was nearby since I’m not much of a night owl. 😉
I loved Laura’s book LOVES RECKONING! I have never heard of a moonbow but would like to see one someday. I far I would go anywhere in the US to see it. I hate flying so I would have to be able to get there by car. 🙂

Also, in response to the moonbow question, I would travel very far. I’d really want to see it if I was in the area, though.
*Sigh* I meant to say ‘wouldn’t’, not ‘would’. That typo basically changed the meaning of my sentence!
I’m from KY but have never heard of a moonbow! I might not travel far to see one, but if I happened to be in an area where I could see one….definitely!
I had never heard of a moonbow! The most delightful way, in my opinion, to learn about history and geography is through a good story. Thank you for researching and using your gifts for your readers!

I probably wouldn’t travel too far to see a moonbow , unless I was sure it was there or if I was camping near it. I don’t think walking around in the dark in the woods is a smart idea. Snakes, bears, scorpions, and spiders in the dark scare me. 😀
I’d go to Kentucky! I’ve been there once for a family reunion. It’s beautiful, and I loved it there!
The scavenger hunt has been so much fun and I have discovered great authors for me to read.

I love to travel, so the real question for me is not how far, but when? I have been to Kentucky several times and find it a lovely place, so I would definitely go back there.
Hello, thanks for telling us about Laura and the Moonbow, I am anxious to read this one as I grew up in Ky and only couple yrs ago traveled to see the area of the moonbow, I have a pic on my living room wall now of “The Falls”, no moonbow when I went but I can imagine it. I love reading this author and hope others will read them also.
I have done the “Hunt” now for several years but never won anything other then meeting new authors and seeing those that I do read. thanks for sharing.
I would travel all the way to the moon to see a moonbow of course, lol. I subscribed to Serna’s newsletter!

A moon bow sounds beyond magical to see and experience so I would say I would travel far and wide to see that 🙂 I also subscribed to your newsletter! I commented on Facebook , but here as well that I have a teenage daughter who is involved in a lot of musicals with a wonderful local community theatre so this book would be ideal for her 🙂 and of course her mom would enjoy it too ! 🙂

I’m not sure if I would travel far to see a moonbow (says the girl from NY state), though if I was traveling through Kentucky and was within a half hour drive of Cumberland Falls, I think I would detour to see a moonbow (though probably to see the falls more than to see a moonbow).
A moonbow … sounds like something I would travel across the world to get a glimpse of. Subscribed to your newsletter. Thanks!

OH MY GOODNESS!! Intermission sounds so good! Sorry for all of the exclamation marks, but that’s how excited I am. I had not heard of this book’s release until now and that is unusual for me since I am always scouting for new Christian and YA fiction. When the two genres are combined, I’m in Jenny B. Jones heaven. 🙂 It’s already on my Amazon wish list. When will the link for the paperback be up on Amazon? As soon as I see I’ll be requesting that my local library purchase it, as well.
I’m hopeful that the paperback will be available on release day, November 15. If not, it will be very soon after. I’m awaiting final paperback proofs. 🙂 I hope you enjoy Intermission, Terrill! 🙂 ~Serena
